Grote brand autosloperij Venlo in verre omtrek te zien


In Venlo woedt een grote brand bij een autosloperij aan de Kaldenkerkerweg. Er komt veel rook vrij die in de wijde omgeving te zien is.


Het vuur ontstond rond 14:15 uur bij het bedrijf aan het einde van de Kaldenkerkerweg, vlak voor de rotonde Keulse Barrière.

Hooggelegen
Aanvankelijk ging het om een kleine buitenbrand, maar de vlammen grepen zeer snel om zich heen. De sloperij ligt op een hooggelegen plek aan de rand van Venlo. Dat maakt de rook zo goed zichtbaar in de verre omtrek.

Afgesloten
De drukke Kaldenkerkerweg is afgesloten voor het doorgaande verkeer. De brandweer van het Duitse Nettetal, vlak over de grens bij Venlo, rukte met drie wagens uit. De brandweer heeft vooral behoefte aan water. Het blussen van de hoog gestapelde autowrakken is heel lastig, het water bereikt het vuur niet.
Zolang het gevaar van ontploffende gas- en benzinetanks bestaat, is er volgens de brandweer maar één oplossing: schuim er overheen en wachten tot het vuur dooft.

'Brand bij autosloperij in Venlo is aangestoken'


De brand bij Heijnen Motors aan de Kaldenkerkerweg in Venlo is aangestoken. Een andere oorzaak voor de brand is niet te verzinnen.
Dat zegt eigenaar Heijnen van de autosloperij waar de brand zondagmiddag rond 14:15 uur uitbrak. Hij vermoedt dat jongeren aan de achterkant van het afgesloten terrein binnen zijn gekomen. Een caravan op het terrein was helemaal overhoop gehaald.

Evacuatie
Nu de brand bijna is geblust, blijft de rook hangen. De omgeving wordt daarom geadviseerd ramen en deuren te sluiten. De buren binnen honderd meter worden geëvacueerd. Er wordt gepoogd een NL alert te doen uitgaan maar de techniek faalt. Er wordt geprobeerd om het alert via Limburg Zuid te versturen.

Zo'n twee uur na het uitbreken van de grote brand in Venlo, komen er nog steeds brandweerwagens uit Nederland en Duitsland aan bij het recyclebedrijf aan de Kaldenkerkerweg.

Waterput
De Duitse brandweer zorgt vooral voor bluswater. Er is te weinig water omdat de waterput bij het bedrijf niet is te vinden. Mogelijk is die bij de reconstructie van de weg enkele jaren geleden onder het asfalt terecht gekomen.

Veel rook
De sloopauto's hebben geen banden meer en ook de tanks zijn verwijderd voor de auto's worden opgeslagen. Vooral de bekleding zorgt voor rook. De dikke rookwolk trekt over het nabijgelegen verpleeghuis Maria Auxiliatrix richting Kaldenkerken. Daar verrichten Duitse meetploegen metingen.
